What Size Wine Cooler Should You Buy?
Share
One of the questions we get asked a lot is, "What size of wine cooler should I buy for my kitchen." The answer depends on several factors. Let's break it down:
Where do I want my wine stored? Answer: If you have room in your kitchen, are remodeling or replacing an old unit, you will need to decide how many bottles you want on hand at any given time. Under counter units are great for quick access to wines you want on hand while cooking or entertaining. While they don't hold as many bottles as larger units, they are convenient. These are especially good for small spaces. Single zone coolers will usually do the trick, but we like the dual-zone feature to separate reds from whites. And since we drink a lot of champagne, we like that stored cooler and on it's own.
If you have more room and want to store some bottles for a longer period of time, perhaps a special bottle you bought on vacation, are saving for a special occasion, or have bought several bottles/cases on futures, you will want a larger unit. Grand Cru Wine Coolers offers options of expanding a single zone cooler into a dual zone by adding on additional units as your collection grows. Our Transtherm Large Capacity Double Wine Cabinet is perfect for laying down wines and expanding collections.
We recommend buying bigger than what you think you need because as we have discovered, wine tends to grow as we find more we like.
If you have a dedicated wine room, game room, rumpus room or outdoor area, you will want to consider factors pertaining to that area. Garages tend to overheat in summer. For this reason we do not recommend using a wine cooler in a hot garage, but there are a few options available if this is your only option. Contact us for your specific needs.
If you've set up an in-home bar in your home or basement, the options are limitless and can be whatever suits your space, taste and budget. The main thing to consider here is aesthetic, as you will want to showcase your wines in the best way to the room. A separate beverage cooler for beer or even a vodka chiller are great options for your in-home bar space.
